The Byzantine Church
The Church of Rome was still in tact when the Western Roman Empire fell. The Pope became the strongest leader. The Latin churches became Catholic Churches. The Eastern Empire never fell. It was then known as Byzantine Empire. The Byzantines made their own christianity. It was based on greek heritage. This church was the Eastern Orthodox Church.
Conflicts between ChurchesIdols and how churches were ran were part of the problem. The Pope said he was the head of all churches. Byzantines didn't like that. Churches refused to help other churches. Byzantine Empire had a different leader. Church leaders respected his thoughts. But in the west the pope wanted political and spiritual power. In 1054, they excommunicated each other. This became known as the the Great Schism. Excommunication means to that a person or group no longer belongs to the church. Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches are preserved to this day.

Monks, Nuns, and Christianity in the West. They ran the hospitals, schools, and helped the poor. They also helped saved Greek and Roman writings. Also they were missionaries. Missionaries teach their religion to people who don't know. In the West, Christian missionaries looked to the islands of Britain and Ireland. In the 400s, tribes from Germany and Denmark invaded Britain. They were known as The Angels and Saxons. They then formed the Anglo-Saxons. They built settlements and set up small kingdoms. The southern part of Britain soon became known as Angle land, or now known as England. The Angels and Saxons pushed people that were already living in Britain, Celts, to the mountainous regions or to Ireland. In the 400s, a priest named Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland.
