How did Romans treat Christians?
Roman officials thought christians were a threat. Everyone was allowed to worship whoever they wanted but they wanted everyone to treat the the Emperor like a God. And since Christians were monotheistic that didn't sit well with them. They saw them like traitors in 64. Many Christians became martyrs. Christians had to bury their loved ones in catacombs. Although christianity still spread. Then it started drawing all kinds of classes. Many romans feared war, but they still loved Christian idea., but christians accepted the empire.

Pope?Churches grew and the bishop gained more power. He thought he had the power of Peter. By 600, The bishop was then called the Pope. In Latin, this means father. Christians who spoke latin accepted the Pope. Their churches became known as the Roman Catholic Church. Christians who spoke greek didn't accept it though.They formed their own church in the Byzantine Empire.

New Testament?Jesus left no writings. People assumed that he couldn't write. So his disciples passed on what they knew about him. They written about everything that they could remember about his life and finally put it all together. After 300 years there were 4 accounts of Jesus' life. Christians believed that it was written by Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These were known as the 4 gospels. And this was known as the new testament.
Rome Adopts Christianity?Christianity had grown too strong to be destroyed by force. In 312, Constantine accepted Christianity. Constantine saw a flaming cross in the sky when he went to battle. Under the cross it said In this sign you will conquer. Constantine won the battle and believed that God had helped him. In 313 he made The Edict of Milan that gave religious freedom to all people and made christianity legal. With the help of his mother, he built churches in Rome and Jerusalem. Constantine let church officials serve in government and excused them from paying tax. Theodosius made Christianity Rome`s official religion. Making all other religions illegal.
